Homer Jay Simpson is the patriarch of the Simpson family, a central character in the animated sitcom The Simpsons. He works as a safety inspector at the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant, a job he is profoundly unqualified for and consistently neglects.

Homer is characterized by his impulsivity, laziness, and general lack of intelligence. He is a devoted (though often neglectful) husband to Marge and father to Bart, Lisa, and Maggie. His passions include donuts, Duff Beer, watching television, and avoiding responsibility.

Despite his many flaws, Homer possesses a childlike innocence and a deep, albeit often misguided, love for his family. He frequently finds himself in outlandish situations, often of his own making, but his good intentions (however clumsily executed) usually prevail in the end.

Homer's iconic catchphrase is "D'oh!", an expression of frustration or self-reproach that has become a widely recognized cultural idiom.
